Composed Nick Ward turns in ‘solid' 21-point performance at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nick Ward’s cheering section was hard to miss on Saturday afternoon at Value City Arena. Just beyond the visitors’ bench were 16 green-clad relatives and friends of the Spartans’ junior forward. No one had a better view than his mother, Stephanie, in a sparking green jersey No. 44 Michigan State jersey. In the past, Ward has admitted that his family’s presence in this game — played close to his hometown of Gahanna, Ohio — has led to nerves and poor play. He’s scored in single digits in both of his career games at Ohio State, and didn’t record a basket last year.
