Michigan’s Greg Mattison to replace Greg Schiano as Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State has hired Michigan’s Greg Mattison as co-defensive coordinator replacing Greg Schiano as confirmed by Cleveland.com. The Buckeye will reportedly hire another coach to replace Alex Grinch — who accepted a job as Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator — to share defensive coordinator duties with Mattison later today. Grinch and Schiano shared the title of co-defensive coordinator last season for a defense that sat 14th in the Big Ten in yards allowed per game at 403.4. The Buckeyes’ defensive struggles were put on full display their overtime win against Maryland as well as its loss to Purdue. Mattison spent the past eight seasons in Ann Arbor — his second stint with the program — first as defensive coordinator from 2011-14, then as the defensive line coach from 2015-18.
