If you thought Ohio State wouldn’t try to maintain its strong presence in New Jersey recruiting circles just because Greg Schiano is no longer on the Buckeyes’ staff, think again. On a day when it was announced that Schiano will not return as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator, Buckeyes coach Ryan Day named a Schiano protege as one of his defensive play callers. Jeff Hafley, a Montvale, Bergen County, native, worked under Schiano as Rutgers’ defensive backs coach during the 2011 campaign. When Schiano left Rutgers to take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head-coaching job, he brought Hafley along with him. Hafley spent the past seven years in the NFL, including the three most three seasons in San Francisco as the 49ers’ defensive backs coach.
