New Ohio State assistant Matt Barnes is one of Urban Meyer’s replacements: Buckeye Take

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Urban Meyer had two jobs at Ohio State. Ryan Day replaced him in one. Matt Barnes, on Thursday, replaced him in the other. Meyer, as the head coach, also proudly proclaimed himself the Buckeyes special teams coach during his seven-year run, even when Kerry Coombs held the title of special teams coordinator, as well as cornerbacks coach, from 2013 to 2017. Meyer loved special teams as his way to connect with players on both sides of the ball. When the Buckeyes were huddling near the sideline before they kicked off, Meyer would wade into the middle and start tapping the coverage guys on the helmet for encouragement.
