New Ohio State head coach Ryan Day appears to have completed his first coaching staff. The Buckeyes announced on Thursday the hiring of Maryland’s Matt Barnes as special teams coordinator and assistant secondary coach. The Scarlet and Gray have also hired Oklahoma State’s Mike Yurcich (quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator), Greg Mattison (co-defensive coordinator) and Al Washington (linebackers coach) from Michigan and Jeff Hafley (co-defensive coordinator), formerly of the San Francisco 49ers. Greg Schiano, Bill Davis and Alex Grinch have all departed the program. If you’re doing the math at home, that’s the full allotment of 10 assistant coaches. While Day’s staff looks complete, with no official announcements on the rest of the coaches at this point, it does take on a different makeup than recent Ohio State coaching staffs.
