It’s been a busy first few weeks for Ryan Day as the head coach at Ohio State. He assembled his first staff, hiring a number of new coaches and keeping some others, while also dealing with players leaving early for the NFL Draft and transfers both in and out. Somewhat lost in the comings and goings of coaches recently was the hiring of Al Washington on Jan. 8. A lot was made of the Buckeyes stealing their second assistant coach away from rivals Michigan in two days but less about what Washington will bring to the Scarlet and Gray. One of the first things Washington adds to this staff is youthful exuberance. After hiring Greg Mattison, 69 years old, and retaining Larry Johnson, 67, the Scarlet and Gray needed to get younger with their defensive coaches.
