College football used to be simple. Coaches recruited high school players to come to play for their school and those guys typically remained in the program for three to five years. While transfers certainly happened, it was not as frequent as it is these days with players coming and going from various programs like free agency in the NFL. The NCAA has made it easier for players to transfer — which is certainly a good thing from the player’s perspective. The graduate transfer rule, which has been around for some time but recently become more in vogue, allows players to go to a new school and play out their remaining eligibility once they graduate from their initial school without having to sit out a year.
