At Ohio State, Al Washington returns home

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Al Washington never shied away from his roots during his short, one-season stint at Michigan. He grew up around Ohio State. His father played football there. His wife attended school there. Last fall, in the lead up to the rivalry game in Columbus, Washington even admitted to wanting to play for the Buckeyes growing up. So when Ryan Day called about an opening on his staff at OSU, Washington had a decision to make. “A hard decision,” Washington, the Buckeyes’ new linebackers coach, said Wednesday. “When you’re at a place — wherever you are — you try to be all-in. It’s not like a stepping-stone place. Not only are you involved, but your family’s involved. “It’s tough.
