Ousted by Ohio State, Greg Schiano lands with Super Bowl champs

It didn’t take Greg Schiano long to land on his feet. Nor for the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots to find their next defensive coordinator, apparently. According to the Boston Globe, Schiano will take over the top defensive spot on Bill Belichick’s staff, replacing Brian Flores, who was officially named the Miami Dolphins’ head coach this week. There’s long been a mutual admiration between Belichick and Schiano, and three of Schiano’s former Rutgers players are key members of the Patriots secondary. Schiano also has been a head coach in the NFL with Tampa Bay, before most recently serving as Urban Meyer’s defensive coordinator at Ohio State. When Meyer retired after the Rose Bowl, new head coach Ryan Day opted not to retain Schiano. The Buckeyes finished 13-1 and won the Big Ten in 2018, but missed out on the College Football Playoff in part because of a 49-20 loss…
