If there’s one sports word that Chris Holtmann has said more than any other since taking over the Ohio State men’s basketball program ahead of the 2017-18 season, it’s likely “turnovers.” Holtmann harps on this for one, because he hates his team giving the ball away, but also due to it being a major issue for the Buckeyes. Last season, the Scarlet and Gray opened the year turning the ball over at an alarming rate. Through the first 10 games of the 2017-18 season, Ohio State turned the ball over on more than 20 percent of the team’s possessions. Holtmann was not pleased. As the season progressed, so did the Buckeyes in that department. By the year’s end, the Scarlet and Gray were only turning the ball over on 17 percent of their possessions, dropping the turnovers to 12.3 per game.
