COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ryan Day has gotten off to a solid recruiting start as Ohio State’s head coach. Since taking over the Buckeyes have landed commitments from Zach Harrison, secured the former No. 2 quarterback Justin Fields and recently started off the 2021 class with Jack Sawyer. His start has been impressive, but also calculated. Fields was a no-brainer as a five-star with the potential to develop into an NFL-caliber quarterback, but that isn’t going to be the norm. What he does want to become a constant is his efforts in encouraging Ohio recruits — especially the four and five-star players — to stay home. Following the early signing period, Day stated that recruiting Ohio kids would “continue to be a priority” and so far he’s lived up to that.
