Every year there is a team that wins a conference tournament that ruins some poor bubble team’s chance to make the NCAA Tournament. Last year, that surprise team was the Davidson Wildcats who earned an automatic bid by winning the Atlantic 10 Tournament. With a loss there was no chance the Wildcats were one of the 68 teams announced on Selection Sunday. A win gave the A-10 a third NCAA Tournament bid. Either Baylor, Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s or USC missed the tournament because of that victory. This season, with so many bubble team sweating it out, there is sure to be an upset that proves costly. There are several mid-major teams poised to make the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
