A few months ago, Ohio State’s quarterback room looked a lot different than it did when the Buckeyes opened spring practice on Wednesday morning. Dwayne Haskins was the starter. Tate Martell was his backup. Matthew Baldwin was returning from a torn ACL suffered in his final high school game. According to Ryan Day, who was then the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach but has since taken over for Urban Meyer as head coach, the Scarlet and Gray expected to get two or three years out of Haskins as a starter. But he had the best individual passing season in Ohio State history and left early for the NFL. Given the success of Day’s offense, Haskins’ friend, and former Georgia quarterback, Justin Fields transferred in, which led to Martell transferring out.
