Penn State dropped four spots in the final Associated Press top-25 poll of the 2018 season following a Citrus Bowl loss to Kentucky. The Lions were as high as No. 9 in the country entering a late September matchup with Ohio State, but once Penn State lost 27-26 to the Buckeyes at Beaver Stadium, they tumbled to No. 11, and would fall again after loses to Michigan State, Michigan, and finally the Wildcats, which led to a No. 17 final ranking by the AP. Too-early 2019 top-25s then followed in the immediate aftermath of Clemson’s win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff, which came about a week after Penn State’s season ended.
