During Urban Meyer’s seven-year tenure as Ohio State’s head football coach, he used to talk about the improvement of the university academically. He would say that former players who remain around the program, such as former offensive lineman Jim Lachey, couldn’t get into Ohio State given the academic standards these days. While Meyer said this in jest, he was often not wrong. The university has improved academically and that has had an impact on the football program. The Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores were released by the NCAA on Wednesday and the Scarlet and Gray football program posted a score of 987. This is good enough for second in the Big Ten — behind only Northwestern — and 11th in the country among Football Bowl Subdivision schools.
