Five-star Buckeyes target LB Mekhail Sherman commits to Georgia: Ohio State football recruiting

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One week after announcing that Ohio State and Georgia were in a two-man race for his services, Mekhail Sherman of St. John’s College (D.C.) High School announced his decision Thursday. The five-star recruit rated as the No. 11 overall prospect — second among outside linebackers — has committed to Georgia. He held 33 total offers, but only took official visits to Columbus and Athens. Losing out on Sherman keeps the Buckeyes in search of another defensive player to add to their 2020 recruiting class to go along with four-star safety Lejond Cavazos. Its lack of defensive commitments could stem from the fact that four of the five assistant coaches are brand new. Of the 20 linebackers with Ohio State offers, Save’ell Smalls, Jaheim Thomas, Kourt Williams and Mitchell Melton give them the best chance at landing one.
