Hawk, Matta, Nugent named to 2019 Ohio State Hall of Fame class

Ohio State announced on Thursday the 10 new members for the Ohio State Varsity ‘O’ Athletics Hall of Fame. Included in the 2019 class are former Buckeye football players A.J. Hawk and Mike Nugent, as well as men’s basketball coach Thad Matta. The other seven inductees are Boyd Cherry (football),Justin Fry (baseball),Jim Foster (women’s basketball coach),Stan Lyons (men’s track and field), Andrew Pierce (men’s track and field),Natalie Spooner (women’s ice hockey) andRJ Umberger (men’s ice hockey). Hawk and Nugent played football together at Ohio State. Hawk arrived as part of then-head coach Jim Tressel’s famed 2002 recruiting class. The linebacker played in all 14 games for the Buckeyes as a freshman as the Scarlet and Gray went undefeated and upset Miami in the Fiesta Bowl to bring home the 2002 BCS National Championship.
