COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Tennessee Titans have announced that they will retire Eddie George’s No. 27 this year. George — whose number was retired at Ohio State in 2001 — spent all but one of his nine-year career with the Titans/Houston Oilers, running for 10,009 yards and 68 touchdowns. He is one of two running backs — along with Jim Brown — to rush for 10,000 yards while never missing a start. He trails only Walter Payton in consecutive starts. At the time of his retirement, he held 28 franchise records for the Titans including rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and rushing attempts. As a Buckeye, George is one of seven Heisman winners, posting career totals of 3,768 yards and 44 touchdowns on 683 carries.
