BUCKEYE LAKE — For the first time in years, fireworks and flares will return to Buckeye Lake just in time for Independence Day. The Buckeye Lake Area Star Spangled Tradition, or BLASST, will again host the lake’s annual fireworks display at 10 p.m. on July 3 from Fairfield Beach, weather permitting. Three summers of construction on the Buckeye Lake Dam project made the area unsafe for shooting off fireworks. But now, with construction complete and the new dam in place, the tradition is back, said J-Me Braig, director of the Buckeye Lake Historical Society and Museum. “It’s a magnificent and unique display out here,” Braig, a fourth-generation Buckeye Lake resident, said. “It’s special to be out on the boat and seeing everyone out on the water.” In addition to fireworks returning, another Buckeye Lake tradition will also be resurrected — lighting up the lake with flares.
