The Big 12 to allow the ‘Horns Down’ signal, within reason If you are a Texas football fan, the ‘Horns Up’ sign is a constant part of your cheering for the Longhorns. But for as long as Texas fans have been using the sign, Oklahoma fans have countered with the ‘Horns Down’ signal. Former Sooner and current Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield still uses it and even taught kids at his camp to use it. Now that sign has spread throughout the conference, the Big 12 made it an unsportsmanlike conduct classification, bringing a 15-yard penalty. The Big 12 has since relaxed on penalizing its usage as long as it’s done quickly and not directed towards an opposing player.
