
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Joe Burrow became just the second player in LSU history to win the Heisman Memorial Trophy Saturday night in New York. The two finalists from Ohio State were defensive end Chase Young and quarterback Justin Fields. They joined Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts as the players invited to New York for the ceremony. Hurts finished second in the voting, Fields third and Young fourth. Burrow began his career at Ohio State before transferring to LSU in 2018. In two seasons he has led the Tigers to a 23-3 record while throwing for 7,609 yards and 64 touchdowns on 68.6 percent passing. He is the fourth straight quarterback to win the award and the first player from the SEC since Alabama running back Derrick Henry in 2015.
