
Ohio State is built to be one of the elite teams in a predictably unpredictable college basketball regular season. The fifth-ranked Buckeyes played well, hit big free throws and make key plays to knock off No. 6 Kentucky 71-65. Ohio State’s calling card is its defense, and that shone through in the closing minutes. For Kentucky, a lot of growth here, but UK is now 8-3 and has lost two straight heading into a humongous game next weekend (on CBS) when it hosts Louisville. Ohio State got a terrific game out of freshman D.J. Carton, who scored 15 points off the bench and steadied the Bucks to a win. Because No. 1 Kansas lost at No. 18 Villanova earlier on Saturday, that means Gonzaga is going to get the No. 1 ranking in the polls come Monday.
