
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Candidates for membership in Ohio State football’s B.I.A. defensive back legacy need not make an immediate impact. Sometimes, thanks to the older talent in a player’s position group, even future stars must wait their turn. Marshon Lattimore did not start until his third season as a Buckeye. Neither did one of the cornerbacks waiting behind him, Denzel Ward. Jeff Okudah should join both of those predecessors as a first-round NFL Draft pick. He is widely predicted to be the first defensive back selected on April 23 in Las Vegas. Like Lattimore and Ward before him, Okudah did not have a job to himself until this season. However, he missed few snaps of consequence for the 2019 College Football Playoff semifinalists as one of the most indispensable defensive players in the nation.
