Could Cameron Martinez be Ohio State football’s second running back in the 2020 signing class?


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cameron Martinez signed with Ohio State football on Wednesday with the ambiguous “athlete” designation next to his name on recruiting sites. On the 2020 signing class roster the Buckeyes distributed, the four-star prospect Muskegon, Michigan, is listed as a defensive back. Yet in OSU coach Ryan Day’s mind, Martinez’s position is best described as TBA. Day said the 5-11, 183-pound former quarterback will be used on both offense and defense when he arrives in the fall. Defensively he’ll begin at outside cornerback. Offensively, he’ll work with the H-backs, where he could potentially take an occasional handoff. Speaking of handoffs, the Buckeyes coveted two running backs in this signing class and only landed one — Winton Woods’ Miyan Williams.
