Ohio State football’s Sevyn Banks says he will now wear his namesake No. 7


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s Sevyn Banks is no longer 7 in name only. Banks, naturally, wore No. 7 Jones High School in Orlando, Florida. But by committing to the Buckeyes first, linebacker Teradja Mitchell beat him to the distinction of wearing the No. 7. Teams cannot have two players on the field at the same time with the same number, so players typically sharing numbers are typically split between offense and defense. So Banks wore Nos. 15 and 12 during his time with the Buckeyes. Monday night, Banks announced he will now wear his namesake number. “I’m #7 YALL READY,” Banks wrote on Twitter. Mitchell also announced Monday that he was switching numbers — and hinted he might wear No. 3.
