9:42 AM ET Ohio State football coach Ryan Day will receive a three-year contract extension pending approval by the board of trustees, the school announced. Day, 40, was named head coach in December 2018, replacing Urban Meyer. At the time, he was given a five-year contract worth $4.5 million per year. Day’s new deal takes his salary to $5.375 million retroactive to Feb. 1. His annualized rate will go to $6 million beginning July 1 this year. The university will also contribute $1 million to his retirement fund on Dec. 31. Day’s salary will increase to $6.5 million for the 2021 season and $7.6 million in 2022. Ohio State was 13-1 in Day’s first full season with the Buckeyes, and that included winning the Big Ten championship. He is 16-1 overall at Ohio State.
