COLUMBUS, Ohio — Several of Ohio State football’s proven defensive leaders spent Monday’s first spring practice on the sideline. No Shaun Wade. No Baron Browning. Even former reserves Josh Proctor and Cam Brown — two players counted on to fill out the Buckeyes’ secondary — were non-contributors on Monday. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said all of those players are expected to return sooner than later. Those absences allowed some other players more room to stand out. A handful did — some returning starters, and some trying to force their way into bigger roles. Our staff picked out three players who caught our eye as the Buckeyes begin the process of replacing two unanimous All-Americans and four other starters from one of the nation’s top-ranked defenses in 2019.
