
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Few positions loomed as bigger needs in Ohio State football’s 2021 recruiting class than cornerback. With Sunday’s commitment from St. Louis DeSmet’s Jakailin Johnson, the Buckeyes landed one of the best in the country. The four-star recruit is ranked No. 59 at all positions (fourth among corners) in the 247 Sports national composite. The 6-0, 168-pound Johnson projects as what could become the prototypical OSU corner — able to thrive in both man and zone coverage and physical against the run and the pass. Ohio State lost two starting cornerbacks from 2019 — Damon Arnette Jr. to the end of his eligibility and Jeff Okudah to early NFL Draft entry. Shaun Wade opted not to follow him, but he is expected to make his own jump to the NFL after 2020.
