How Ohio State football’s Jack Miller and CJ Stroud adjust to losing their spring head start


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Rancho Cucamonga High School football coach Mark Verti saw Ohio State freshman quarterback CJ Stroud’s self-directed work ethic firsthand. While helping the Cougars basketball team to the California state tournament as a junior, Stroud organized his own passing workouts with his receivers. If Verti didn’t immediately upload the video from spring and summer workouts on Hudl, Stroud often sent a friendly text reminder the same night. Arizona quarterback coach Mike Giovando witnessed the same attributes in Jack Miller, the Buckeyes’ other incoming quarterback. He noticed a true enjoyment for getting in the weight room or getting on the field to work on self-critiques of his mechanics. Both Miller and Stroud should be working with Ohio State coach Ryan Day and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis on a daily basis this spring.
