How an unexpected dead period is impacting Ohio State football’s 2022 quarterback recruiting


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ryan Day has always been able to identify Ohio State football’s future quarterbacks two years ahead of their Signing Day since he arrived in 2017. In July 2018, the Buckeyes got a verbal commitment from Jack Miller, who held firm in his choice even after OSU added C.J. Stroud as a second option. In April of 2019, Kyle McCord became the second player in a No. 1 rated recruiting class as a product out of Pennsylvania. Those three will compete to be the starter in the spring of 2021 when Justin Fields is off competing with Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence to be the No. 1 pick when then NFL Draft comes to Cleveland. Depending on how that battle goes, Ohio State may be looking to retool its quarterback room, much like it did in 2019. But at least then there was an idea of what came after.…
