
COLUMBUS, Ohio — By one measure, Ohio State football is considered to have the 10th-toughest strength of schedule among Big Ten teams going into the 2020 season. Cleveland’s own Phil Steele, writing for ESPN+, pointed out the 2019 winning percentage of the Buckeyes’ 2020 opponents ranks 43rd nationally. Steele admits that methodology is flawed because some teams with strong 2019 records will struggle in 2020, and vice versa. Ohio State will also appear lower on these lists because its opponents get to include the Buckeyes’ 13-1 record. Ohio State plays a road game at Oregon — which Steele ranks as having the eighth-toughest strength of schedule — and at Penn State. The Buckeyes play eight 2019 bowl teams — the Ducks and Nittany Lions, as well as Buffalo, Iowa, Michigan State, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.
