
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Members of Ohio State’s athletics community were visible among the students, police officers and others who participated in the “Kneel For Nine” demonstration on campus Tuesday night. One of the Buckeyes was football player C.J. Saunders, who was arrested Monday night for violating the curfew imposed in response to the widespread protests. Athletic director Gene Smith is also visible in the photos posted by Ohio State’s student newspaper, The Lantern. In another tweet, Smith said the demonstration was organized by Ohio State student athletes. The demonstration took place in the Jesse Owens Memorial Plaza. That area outside Ohio Stadium is named for the Buckeye alum and black track and field great who won four gold medals in front of Adolf Hitler at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
