Ohio State football can extend King of the North reign through non-conference scheduling: Buckeye Take


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State set aside fears of what one regular-season loss might mean when it scheduled Alabama for a non-conference football series in 2027-28. The downside pales in comparison to what a victory in either game can mean for the final stage of the Buckeyes’ attempted ascent to college football’s ceiling. Alabama and Clemson indisputably own the top tier. The Crimson Tide have won five national championships since 2009 and appeared in every College Football Playoff until last season. Clemson has appeared in four of the last five CFP national championship games, winning two. Ohio State sits alone on the next branch down. The Buckeyes are poised to continue their rule of the Big Ten. They will be expected to win in 2020 and the recruiting momentum suggests no one should expect an imminent drop-off.
