With the majority of spring ball having been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic and continuing uncertainty about how fall camp will look, the early stages of college football this season could be sloppy on all sides. There’s no telling whether teams will have normal preseasons — Clemson has reportedly had 23 players test positive for COVID-19, and there’s no reason that can’t happen to another team during fall camp — and the offseasons were anything but normal. The working theory is that that will hurt teams that lack continuity and experience. So programs that have young rosters, new head coaches or even new systems on offense and defense could be severely affected, as Zoom meetings can’t totally make up for a lack of on-field work.
