Ohio State President Michael Drake: ‘I would not support’ Buckeye Pledge as a liability waiver


WASHINGTON, D.C. — Michael Drake, Ohio State’s outgoing President and the chair of the NCAA Board of Governors, reiterated to a U.S. Senate committee Wednesday that the ‘Buckeye Pledge’ is not a liability waiver. In a hearing on Name, Image and Likeness policy before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) asked Drake why OSU athletes were asked to sign a liability waiver. Drake responded that the document was not a waiver — and additionally said “I would not support” such a waiver. Drake said all Ohio State students will be asked to sign the pledge when returning to classes this fall.
