Penn State is one of the Big Ten’s top teams, but 247Sports’ preseason poll shows gap between it, Ohio State


Penn State is projected to finish in second place of the Big Ten East, according to an early preseason poll voted on by the staff of 247Sports. The final tally, however, illustrates the analyst’s beliefs about the gap that exists between the Nittany Lions and the conference’s standout team, Ohio State. Head coach James Franklin’s program finished with 64 points, which means all but one of the panelists predicted it to finish second behind the Buckeyes, who finished with a perfect first-place score of 77 points from 11 voters (the first place team received seven points per vote, second place six, and so on). “All 11 voters sided with Ohio State in their projections for the East Division,” 247Sports’ Brandon Marcello writes. “That’s not much of a surprise, though you’d think someone might stretch their neck out and place Penn State atop the conference.
