Sen. Sherrod Brown wants Cleveland’s baseball team renamed the Buckeyes


WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown on Wednesday weighed in on the debate over whether the Cleveland Indians baseball team should change its name, suggesting that the team should be called the Cleveland Buckeyes, after a historic Cleveland-based Negro League team that twice made it to their league’s world series in the 1940s. “I called the owner yesterday and left him a voice message,” the Cleveland Democrat told reporters on Wednesday. “I think they should change the Indians name to the Cleveland Buckeyes.” Brown is a lifelong Indians fan who often boosts the team on social media.
