The Oregon Ducks’ marquee nonconference football matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes slated for Sept. 12 at Autzen Stadium will not be played because the Big Ten Conference is moving to a conference-only model for all sports for this fall. The Big Ten announced its decision Thursday after media reports said the conference was moving toward conference-only play for the fall sports seasons. The news comes one day after the Ivy League suspended all fall sports because of the coronavirus pandemic. “By limiting competition to other Big Ten institutions, the conference will have the greatest flexibility to adjust its own operations throughout the season and make quick decisions in real time based on the most current evolving medical advice and the fluid nature of the pandemic,” the Big Ten said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
