
For as long as Mark Sullivan can remember, he always wanted to be a New Bedford Whaler. “When I was just a little squirt, I’d go down to Sargent Field and jump the fence and watch New Bedford High play football,” the 62-year-old recently reflected. “I always said to myself, ‘I want to play for them someday.’” After attending Bishop Stang as a freshman, Sullivan transferred to New Bedford High his sophomore year and his dream became a reality as he suited up for the Whalers that fall as a defensive lineman. “The dream came true,” he said. “The new school had just opened when I transferred. My class was the first sophomore class at the new high school.
