
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State linebackers coach Al Washington told 2022 commit C.J. Hicks he was looking at some players for the 2022 recruiting cycle. Washington gave Hicks a list, and Hicks had already known about one of the players on it. Dasan McCullough, a 2022 four-star athlete who projects as an outside linebacker, had spent the first nine years of his life in Cincinnati. With Hicks growing up near the city, the two knew of each other through travel football circles. But they had never really talked. So one day in May, Hicks, who has taken on the nickname “Captain Buckeye” because he’s been head recruiter for his class, sent a direct message to McCullough on Instagram.
