White House wants Ohio to shut down bars, gyms in coronavirus ’hot zones’


Ohio was not among the 18 hard-hit states directed to enact stricter measures such as mask requirements and increased testing statewide, but it is in the next tier of states told to crack down on “red zone” areas as defined by the White House Coronavirus Task Force. When the Center for Public Integrity unveiled an unpublished report by the White House Coronavirus Task Force last week, it contained the proverbial good news and bad news for Ohio. The Buckeye State was not among the 18 hard-hit states directed to enact stricter measures such as mask requirements and increased testing statewide. However, we were in the next tier, among those states told to crack down on “red zone” areas (not quite the same as Ohio’s “red” counties as defined by the state health department) with the highest levels of COVID-19.
