Ohio State football opens preseason camp: Five priorities for the Buckeyes before the season opener


COLUMBUS, Ohio — A week ago, real doubt descended on whether Ohio State football and other Big Ten Conference teams would be allowed to begin practice as scheduled. As it turns out, the Buckeyes’ preseason camp will not begin as scheduled. It opens one day early — today — by virtue of Wednesday’s announcement that OSU’s season opener falls on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Illinois. The coronavirus pandemic ended Ohio State’s spring after three practices and cast a shadow over summer workouts. The Buckeyes even paused theirs briefly after a flare-up in positive tests. Yet with conference administrators cautioning that playing games this fall remains an uncertain proposition, OSU will at least be allowed to begin preparations to extend its run of three consecutive Big Ten championships.
