
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football opens the 2020 season chasing Clemson — at least in the minds of the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll voters. The Buckeyes ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll, released Thursday. No. 1 Clemson received 38 of 65 first-place votes, while OSU received 17. The Tigers held a 1,589-1555 edge in voting points. Clemson defeated Ohio State 29-23 in last year’s Fiesta Bowl and went on to lost to LSU in the College Football Playoff national championship. The Tigers have beaten OSU in the Buckeyes’ last two CFP semifinal appearances. Alabama (four first-place votes), Georgia, and defending champion LSU (six first-place votes) round out the top five. No. 7 Penn State is the highest-ranked Big Ten opponent.
