Large universities resuming any kind of in-person operations this fall have rewritten campus protocols and procedures, reinvented the move-in process, and developed detailed testing protocols in an effort to operate as safely as possible during the coronavirus pandemic. But when more than 65% of students live outside of university housing, how does a place like Ohio State keep the virus from crossing High Street and stepping onto campus after a Friday night party? A familiar bass thud ripped through front-porch speakers on a recent Friday night in the University District, where students have slowly begun returning to the apartments and houses surrounding Ohio State’s campus.
