Ohio State: Suspensions ’likely’ for students and organizations ignoring COVID safety


Classes don’t begin at Ohio State until Tuesday, but university officials are already giving students who violate the school’s COVID health and safety plan a stern reminder: You will be held accountable for your unsafe behaviors. In a letter to students sent Friday, Melissa S. Shivers, Ohio State’s vice president for student life, wrote that both individuals and organizations will be held accountable for behaviors that could promote the spread of COVID-19. The university’s student conduct team is already in the process of opening dozens of conduct cases, Shivers said, “which likely will result in interim suspensions for individuals and student organizations who have chosen to hold parties that are not consistent with safe and healthy guidelines.” Students were required to sign the Buckeye Pledge, an agreement detailing safety and health guidelines they are asked to follow, as part of their return to campus.
