
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Add Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to those taking an optimistic view of the chances of Ohio State and the Big Ten Conference playing football this fall. At his Tuesday press conference, DeWine was asked about the letter lawmakers from six states sent to the Big Ten, asking for the decision to cancel the fall football season due to the coronavirus to be reconsidered. DeWine said he spoke with Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith on Tuesday morning and came out of the conversation believing “there is a decent chance of there being a season in football for the Big Ten and for Ohio Sate, which is what we’re really concerned about.” DeWine declined to disclose details of the call with Smith, except to say the governor inquired about the fall possibility. “(Smith) said it was still in play — still very much a possibility,” DeWine said. “……
