The Big Ten may tell you that the reason the conference elected to reverse course and play football this fall, after a strong stance for nearly a month that no such event would happen, was because of medical advancements or a change in advice, and that may be true. But it’s only part of the story. The Big Ten, admit it or not, felt pressure from players, teams and coaches to play this season, especially when the conference presidents saw other leagues and college football teams around the country playing games. Along with Iowa, Ohio State and Nebraska were the two programs most outspoken against the Big Ten’s decision to “postpone” the fall sports seasons. Buckeye players such as Justin Fields and Jonathon Cooper were on national television stating how they believed it was safe to take the field. Eight Cornhusker players sued the Big Ten to play.
