After watching Ohio State’s 38-25 win over Penn State on Saturday night, I can’t help but think back to the postgame press conference from two years ago in a very different Beaver Stadium. You’ll recall the game had been decided by a single point for the second year in a row, each won by the Buckeyes, after the Nittany Lions had won that firecracker in 2016 by 3. Penn State had not made the College Football Playoff, as it now clearly won’t in this weird season, even if we make it through COVID to having one. And a CFP berth was the narrow line between a program that had won the 2014 national title and been in the tournament multiple times and one that had never been. But that night two years ago, the line seemed a hair’s breadth. And PSU coach James Franklin was openly obsessing about the task…
