CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio State basketball commit Meechie Johnson has decided to forego his senior year of high school basketball to enroll early. The four-star recruit is rated as the No. 76 overall player and No. 14 point guard in the 2021 recruiting class as one of three in-state commits rated as top 100 players for the Buckeyes. Johnson’s commitment gave Ohio State a future starting point guard, which became a necessity after D.J. Carton transferred to Marquette after just one season. Enrolling early will make him eligible to play in January which will give the Buckeyes depth in the backcourt with Carton and Luther Muhammad — now at Arizona State — gone and Abel Porter’s college career coming to an end because of a non-COVID related medical condition.
