COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s young players consider contributing on special teams a right of passage on their way to bigger roles. Some Buckeyes keep contributing there throughout long careers. Tuf Borland, in his third season as a starting linebacker and captain, played so well in both capacities that Ohio State recognized him as Player of the Game for both defense and special teams in Saturday’s 49-27 victory over Rutgers. Borland collected five tackles, two assists and one knockdown on defense. He recorded the Buckeyes’ only sack of the game right before halftime, securing a 35-3 lead going into the locker room. He was also recognized for his “critical blocks” on the punt return team. One such block helped spring Steele Chambers’ 38-yard run on a fake punt.
